da bet sport: Tottenham Hotspur’s season hangs in the balance.
da pinnacle: Out of the FA Cup, out of the top four and they may well complete the trifecta next week if they cannot overcome RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
On Wednesday evening, Spurs made it four straight defeats as Norwich City conquered them on penalties to make their first FA Cup quarter-final since 1992.
Jan Vertonghen scored their only goal of the game, heading home Giovani Lo Celso’s cross in the 13th minute, and it appears as if fans have made a drastic U-turn on the Belgian centre-back.
He was slammed against Chelsea for being a “headless chicken” and against Middlesbrough in the third round of the cup for his lack of pace and when reports emerged linking him with a move to Inter Milan, plenty wanted to see him leave.
But that wasn’t the case earlier this week. Here’s what fans have been saying…
There were plenty of glowing endorsements for the 32-year-old, perhaps a shock given previous reactions from recent matches.
Vertonghen’s display was described as a “masterclass” by one supporter while another claimed he was “excellent.”
He played the entire match at left-back and picked up the second-highest rating (7.5) of the Spurs players that featured, per SofaScore, after recording three clearances, one successful dribble and had a 81% passing accuracy.

Evidently, many believed he was only one of a few that had a decent game despite the agonising defeat to Norwich.
There were even some comparisons made with Vertonghen playing wide instead of through the middle.
One fan claimed the veteran was “10x” better than usual left-back Ben Davies while another suggested Vertonghen’s crossing was better than Serge Aurier who played on the other side of the defence.
Meanwhile, others pointed out his commitment and passion for the club so not everyone is acting sour on the centre-back.
A further member of the Spurs faithful thanked him for showing Christian Eriksen how to bow out in a class manner while one more supporter claimed you could see how much it meant to him to still be playing for the north London outfit.
