da lvbet: According to reports in The Mirror, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to axe attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer as he looks to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil on a free transfer.
What’s the word, then?
da blaze casino: Well, The Mirror says Mourinho wants to be reunited with Ozil at the end of the season having previously worked with the Germany international during his time at the helm of Real Madrid, but the Portuguese boss knows he must trim his squad first.
The Mirror says that Mourinho has already publicly criticised Mkhitaryan following a loss of form that has seen him excluded from the matchday squad in recent weeks.
The report says it could be the final straw for the Armenia international’s Old Trafford career, considering he has generally struggled to make an impact since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.
How has Mkhitaryan done this season?
Mourinho looked to have found the solution to his No 10 problem when the 28-year-old started the campaign on fire, producing five assists in the opening three Premier League matches this term.
However, he failed to produce another despite starting seven of the next eight top flight games, and he hasn’t been named in the 18 since the 1-0 win against Brighton on November 25, also missing out on the Red Devils’ final two Champions League group games.
Disappointing performances in the draw against Liverpool, win against Tottenham and defeat to Chelsea would have been particularly frustrating for United, as it hinted that he isn’t able to perform in the big fixtures.
Will he be a big loss?
If United sell Mkhitaryan and sign Ozil on a free transfer next summer, the Armenia playmaker will soon be forgotten.
He certainly hasn’t become a cult hero with the Old Trafford faithful following his move from Dortmund in the summer of 2016, and he has often struggled to adapt to the pace and intensity of the Premier League.
United fans will certainly know that they would be getting an upgrade in Ozil, who has shown with 50 Premier League assists during his time with Arsenal just how creative and influential he can be.
