da esoccer bet: Former Liverpool man Dietmaar Hamann has criticised his compatriot Mesut Ozil, revealing why he believes Real Madrid agree to see the World Cup winner to Arsenal.
da bwin: Ozil, Arsenal’s record signing, has become a fan-favourite since moving to the Emirates Stadium in 2013 but has widely been criticised for his lacklustre performances in big matches, with the finger once again being pointed after the 5-1 drubbing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The German ace has improved his form in front of goal this season but has seen his performances curtail since the turn of the year, something that Hamann believes is nothing new.
Speaking to the Paddy Power Blog, Hamann believes Real Madrid sold Ozil because he doesn’t perform in the second-half of the season.
‘[Arsene] Wenger has put a lot of trust and faith in some of these players and he’s been badly let down. It’s one thing when you buy somebody – you see the talent and the ability – but sometimes you only see how they behave and how they react in stressful situations when they’re already at your club,’
‘I never believed the hype about Mesut Ozil, but he shouldn’t be treated as a scapegoat either. The bottom line with Arsenal is they’ve got some players who play in September, October and November but don’t turn up in February and March. That’s when it matters. There’s a reason Real Madrid sold Ozil.’
Arsenal fans will have little argument against these views and will likely accept the opinion as being true, with Ozil having struggled to perform in 2017 and also enduring a similar decline at the back-end of last season- which saw him fail to surpass Thierry Henry’s season record for most assists in the Premier League.
