da betsul: Everton could have the strike-force with the most potential in the Premier League, and perhaps in Europe, if they sign Monaco wonderkid Pietro Pellegri to partner their young star Richarlison in attack.
What’s the word, then?
The Italian forward became the youngest player to score twice in one match in Italian top-flight history when he netted a double against Lazio in September of last year, at just 16 years of age.
Pellegri came through the ranks at Genoa and, in addition to his aforementioned record, also became the joint-youngest player in Serie A history at 15 years and 280 days – he is also the first Serie A goalscorer born in 2001.
The teenager is a tall forward who is very good with the ball at his feet, in which you can certainly see similarities to his idol, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Pellegri earned a £17.1m move to Ligue 1 side Monaco – the second largest fee for a 16-year-old is history.
However, since that move, Pellegri has struggled with injuries and has scored just one goal. Thierry Henry’s side are also struggling for form and have lost the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho and Thomas Lemar, and Pellegri should jump ship too for the sake of his career.
Why would Everton suit him?
Marco Silva is constructing one of the best Everton sides in recent history, containing the likes of Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes, Richarlison and so on. It is youthful, vibrant and exciting, and will only get better.
In that respect, the Toffees should spend big to bring Pellegri to Goodison Park, where his potential partnership with Brazilian international Richarlison could become one of the best, and most sustainable, in Europe.
The Italian striker’s physique, technique and aerial ability would compliment 21-year-old Richarlison’s pace down to a tee. Additionally, the fact that Monaco are struggling down near the foot of the French top-flight may result in the Italian prodigy wanting a move to reignite his career.
