da esoccer bet: Chelsea risk losing Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid as it’s emerged the Blues have not held talks with the Belgian goalkeeper for a year, The Evening Standard reports.
What’s the word?
da dobrowin: Rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, you would imagine that Chelsea would be doing all they can to tie-down Thibaut Courtois to the West London side. As it stands though, there has been no contact for a whole year.
The Belgian stopper has attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are keen to capture a new goalkeeper this summer, and Courtois’ position at Chelsea is under scrutiny as he has just two-years left on his current deal.
Chelsea are expected to offer the 24-year-old fresh terms but no talks have been held so far, despite a contract extension first being mentioned last year- but both parties agreed to put a hold on any discussions.
Will Real Madrid swoop?
Chelsea’s reluctance to open talks may hand encouragement to Real Madrid, who are drawing up a short-list of potential goalkeeping targets ahead of the summer- and Thibaut Courtois is one of the big names on their wish-list.
The Blues would still demand a high-price for Courtois’ services and he is joined by two fellow Premier League stopper’s on Real Madrid’s wish-list; with The Evening Standard claiming Zinedine Zidane’s side are also targeting Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris and Manchester United’s David De Gea.
It would be difficult to capture any of that trio but Real Madrid do have an alternative option in the form of Benfica’s young Brazilian Ederson, who has earned plenty of plaudits on the continent for his fine displays.
