da betsul: As reported by the Daily Mail, Rangers are close to agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign winger Jamie Murphy.
What’s the story?
da fezbet: After a morale boosting draw away to Celtic at the end of 2017, hopes are high at Ibrox that they can have a big second half of the season in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup, with supporters craving consistent form and silverware.
A key part of that will be attracting talent in this month’s transfer window that can arrive in Glasgow and immediately improve their first-team.
One such player could be Jamie Murphy, with the Daily Mail reporting that Rangers are closing in on a deal in excess of £1m for the Brighton star.
Will he be Rangers’ first signing of 2018?
What does he offer?
While Murphy hasn’t featured much for the newly promoted Premier League side this season, he was an integral part of the side last season that saw the Seagulls make that bold step into the English top flight.
He made 40 appearances in all competitions for Chris Hughton’s side, showing the versatility to play not only on the left wing but also through the middle and on the right flank too.
It’s in his natural position that Rangers most need him though, with the Ibrox side lacking width on their left flank, having to rely on defender Declan John to provide much of their attacking joy in that area. Josh Windass has also been an option but in recent weeks has been preferred by Graeme Murty in a more central role.
Murphy could provide creativity and attacking width and revitalise an attack that at times this season has looked a bit one note. With strikers like Alfredo Morelos craving more service, the former Motherwell man could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
